Christopher Columbus famously stopped in the port of Las Palmas on his first trip to the Americas and you can visit the museum dedicated to him (Casa de Colon) in the pebbled streets of the old quarter of Vegueta and also whist in this are, visit the Cathedral and Santa Ana square.

The beautiful neighbourhood of Triana is another famous part of Las Palmas to explore – with shopping and fine dining choices and San Telmo Park.

The award winning Las Canteras beach which reaches almost 3 kilometres, is one of the best known is Spain and is lined with many great restaurants and hotels.

Did you know?  Many films have chosen Gran Canaria as their location, and Plaza de Cairasco in Triana Las Palmas was the location for filming for “Allied” staring Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard.

Las Palmas is the capital of the island of Gran Canaria. Located in the north of the island it is a cosmopolitan capital which enjoys the combination of beaches, bustling harbours and chic city center.

It is a great alternative to the customary sunbathing package holiday which the South of the island is famous for and provides a beach meets city resort choice.
